Valley High Track and Field Performance

Updated: The Valley team competed in the Kanab Mid-Week Qualifier Track Meet. Austin Dean took 1st in the mile, Eli Esplin won the shot put and broke the school record again. He also placed 3rd in the discue. Cameron Franklin, Austin Dean, Danny Goulding, and Travis Lee placed 1st in the medley and 2nd in the 4 by 400- they also qualified for state in the medley and 4 by 100. Travis Lee placd 4th in the 110 hurdle. Alyssa Lee took 3rd in the discus and McCrae Cox placed 5th in the discus. Ashlynn Spencer qualified for BYU in the shot put.

 

The Valley High School track team has participated in four track meets so far and have performed pretty well. In the first meet of the season in Kanab Eli Esplin qualified for state in shot put while also breaking the school record with a throw of 47′ 5.5″. Cameron Franklin took second in the 100, 200, and 400 races while qualifying for state in the 400 and 100. Austin Dean won the 800. The girls 4 by 100 team was able to take third.

The second track meet was in Hurricane. Austin Dean was able to qualify for state in the two mile. Cameron Franklin qualified for state in the 200. McCrae Cox qualified for the BYU Invitational in the 800.

The following week there were two tracks meets, one for freshman and sophomores in Kanab and then one for the whole team in Milford. The freshman/sophomore athletes performed very well with Robert Beardall, Cameron Franklin, and Kelsie Barrick placing in the top 4 in at least two events they had participated in. The participants that went to Milford performed very well too. Austin Dean qualified for state in the long jump. Kelsie Barrick and Travis Lee were also able to get in the top 6 in events that they had participated in. So far the team is performing well and is getting ready to peak at the right time.
