The Valley High School boys golf team did what few others have done when they took home the 1A State Championship trophy for the third consecutive year. Coming in as the heavy favorites, the team lived up to expectations and did not disappoint in the state golf meet held at East Bay Golf Course in Provo. At the end of the first day, Valley had four of the top five spots and a commanding 33 stroke lead on second place Rich. Cobe Reck shot a 76, Isaac Stout 77, Chevy Spencer 79, and Casey Reck an 81. Kade Cox and Brycen Barrick also scored well, coming in at 91 and 107, respectively. The team score after day one was 313.
Day two of the tournament presented some challenges, as participants had to battle poor weather conditions throughout most of the day. The Rich Rebels fought hard and came in with some very good scores. After shooting a team score of 346 the first day, the Rebels came back and shot a 328 on day two. However, it wasn’t enough as the Buffalos also shot a very respectable 329 and, held on to win by a wide margin of 32 strokes.
While the team outcome was basically decided on day one, the race for individual medalist was a different matter with only 5 strokes separating the top five golfers (four of whom were from Valley). Cobe Reck and Isaac Stout, from VHS, and Nick Jarman, from Rich High School, were separated by only 2 strokes. At the end of the day, it was Stout who took home the individual medalist honors, shooting an outstanding round of golf with a score of 73. Reck came in at an 81, as did Jarman. It is interesting to note that after playing a total of 162 holes of golf this year, Cobe and Isaac were separated by only three strokes.
We would like to congratulate all members of the VHS boys golf team on a fantastic year! Team members include: Isaac Stout, Cobe Reck, Brycen Barrick, Kade Cox, Dallen Saul, Trayson Maxwell, Chevy Spencer, Garrett Spencer, Easton Bonham, Dustin Cox, Logan Dean, and Casey Reck.
On the girls side of the tournament, Jael Chamberlain was the only golfer from Valley. After doing a great job throughout the season, Jael came in with a personal best at the state meet. She finished in 10th place, beating many girls who had finished ahead of her throughout the season. Great job Jael!
